Giuly was the former Barça player who hit the woodwork three times in the same match

Before Leo Messi against Betis, the Frenchman suffered a similar fate in 2006, in a match against Alavés at the Camp Nou which was also won by 2-0

FC Barcelona began the 2017/18 La Liga season with a win at the Camp Nou against Real Betis (2-0), thanks to a Tosca own goal and Sergi Roberto. However, the score could’ve been much higher had Leo Messi not seen three of his shots hit the woodwork.

Although Takashi Inui of Eibar did similar on February 14, 2016 against Levante, we have to go right back until 2006 to find the previous precedent in the league. On January 22 at the Camp Nou, Ludovic Giuly saw three shots hit the woodwork in the game against Alavés. FC Barcelona also ended up winning 2-0 on that occasion, thanks to the goals of a young Messi and Henrik Larsson.

Before Messi (2017), Inui (2016) and Giuly (2006), the other players who repeated this curious statistic in La Liga were Duda (2005), Assunçao and Olivera (2002).
